Professor Michael John Peek is Associate Dean (Health Precinct Planning) ANU College of Health and Medicine. 

His research interests are centred around medical disorders in pregnancy including being Chief Investigator on three current NHMRC Project Grants studying rheumatic heart disease in pregnancy, asthma management in pregnancy and the treatment of early onset gestational diabetes.  Michael’s passion for Obstetrics and Obstetric Research is based on the belief that if you can provide someone with a healthy start to life they are more likely to reach their full potential and better health care and research centred around the perinatal period will have a profound positive effect on society. His research has been supported by local and national research foundations. He was a previous Federal Council Member of the RANZCOG and Past President of the Australasian Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy. He has contributed on over 100 peer reviewed publications, 5 NHMRC Project Grants (2 completed and 3 continuing) and over $8 million dollars in research funding. 

Michael graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Science (Medical) (Honours) in 1984, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1985 and Doctor of Philosophy in 1993 and completed specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, carried out at King George V Hospital, Sydney. Michael has previously worked at Queen Charlotte’s Hospital in London, Canberra Hospital & Health Services and Nepean Hospital.

Before returning to Canberra in 2015, he was Associate Dean of Sydney Medical School Nepean, University of Sydney.  There under his guidance, the Nepean Clinical School became an independent Clinical School of the University of Sydney and a popular destination for both local and international students. He helped secure a $17.2 million grant from the Federal Government for a new clinical school building which incorporated educationally orientated specialist outpatient services. He was also the first Director of The Charles Perkins Centre Nepean.
