Promotion - Clinical title

Honorary Clinical Title refers to individuals who contribute some expertise and experience to the Medical School to support research or creative activity, education and service activities of the University.

Please read the instructions carefully, honorary clinical title promotion processes are different to those of honorary full title.

Clinical Promotion applications to Clinical Levels B-D (Honorary)

You will need to:

  1. The application form to download can be found here (DOCX, 788KB).
  2. Discuss your application with your School of Medicine and Psychology academic supervisor as well as your relevant clinical supervisor.  
  3. Provide:
    • Two written references as outlined in the application form.
    • Ensure you include a description of your teaching and research activities, especially as they relate to ANU and SMP.
    • Provide an up-to-date copy of your Curriculum Vitae. Please use the CV template (DOC 110KB) or use this as a guide to what to include in your CV.
    • A written statement, along with evidence of your academic, research and contributions to the Australian National University over the last 2-3 years. Please meet with your ANU School of Medicine and Psychology academic supervisor to discuss.
  4. Submit the Application form via the submission link.

Honorary Clinical Academic title is for a fixed-term period or until the applicant's work-related association with the School of Medicine and Psychology in the Australian Capital Territory; South East region of NSW or Sydney Adventist Hospital campus ends.

Outcome

Once received, the application will be considered by the Medical School Appointment, Renewal and Promotion Committee. The decision on honorary clinical title Levels B-D will be made by the Director of the School of Medicine and Psychology on advice from the committee at its next meeting and you will be advised in writing of the outcome within 6 weeks.

 

Promotion applications to Clinical Level E (Honorary)

You will need to:

  1. The application form to download can be found here (DOCX, 788KB).
  2. Discuss your application with your School of Medicine and Psychology academic supervisor.  
  3. Provide:
    • Two written references as outlined in the application form.
    • Ensure you include a description of your teaching, research and leadership, especially as they relate to ANU and SMP.
    • Provide an up-to-date copy of your Curriculum Vitae. Please use the CV template (DOC 110KB) or use this as a guide to what to include in your CV.
    • A written statement, along with evidence of your academic, teaching, research and leadership contributions, especially as they relate to ANU and SMP. 
  4. Submit the Application form via the submission link.

Outcome

The Director of the School of Medicine and Psychology on advice from the School's Appointment, Renewal and Clinical Promotion Committee will make a recommendation to the Vice-Chancellor to support or refute the application to honorary clinical title Level E. 

An interview with the School of Medicine and Psychology Appointment, Renewal and Clinical Promotion Committee is usually required to make a decision on the recommendation.

Once the Vice-Chancellor has considered your application, you will be notified of the outcome. 

 

Outlining teaching and research activities 

Be as specific as you can when outlining previous teaching and research activities.

For teaching contributions, provide details on the number of lectures/workshops you have provided and currently provide annually, information on university and School committee membership, involvement in curriculum or course development, assessment, review, etc.

For research contributions, provide details of funding received in the past 5 years, presentations at conferences, invitations to conferences and other institutions, membership of committees, assessing funding applications, etc.

Statement regarding achievements relative to opportunity

The ANU is an equal opportunity employer. It may be relevant to also prepare a statement regarding your achievements relative to opportunity.

This statement is very important if your academic contributions have been affected by caring responsibilities, chronic illness, disability, prolonged leave, fractional full time equivalent work or significant clinical/managerial loads in your roles, etc.

You should also list your type of appointment, describe how many hours you work, and how much of that is designated for academic work (teaching or research).
