SMP Research Seminar Series

SMP is dedicated to providing platforms for sharing, disseminating research, and creating collaborative networks for all of our staff and students. The new SMP Seminar Series launched on Thursday, 20 April. Approximately 60 people attended the launch, either in person or online.

The Series will focus on elevating research within SMP, with particular emphasis on highlighting the research conducted by HDR students and Early Career Researchers. It also ensures regular opportunities for researchers external to SMP to present. To ensure maximum opportunity for participation, the schedule for presentations alternates across weeks. If you're a SMP researcher you should have a standing invitation in your calendar to attend these presentations. If you don't please contact research.smp@anu.edu.au to be added to the invitation list.

  • Nicole Vargas and Joanne Rathbone - the organisers of the series - welcome the audience

  • Bruce Christensen, Deputy Director, School of Medicine and Psychology, discusses the importance of the series in building collobration between the disciplines of psychology and medicine

  • Russell Gruen, Dean of the College of Health and Medicine, highlighted that although it may be challenging at first, the School of Medicine and Psychology is leading the way in redefining the frontiers of knowledge between the disciplines of medicine and psychology

  • Chris Wang, psychology PhD scholar, was the first presentation. He discussed findings from his recently published paper about how percevied social identification can guide an individual's perception of truth.

  • Rimeke Aggio Bruce, a postdoctoral fellow and lecturer in anatomy, is introduced by Nicole Vargas. Rimeke discussed biomarkers for early detection of age-related macular degeneration.

  • An opportunity to network with colleagues after the presentations.

  • Special thanks to our organisers and presenters (l-r) Bruce Christensen, Joanne Rathbone, Nicole Vargas, Anna Olsen, Russell Gruen
