Academic Unit of General Practice

The Academic Unit of General Practice is a community resource committed to providing excellence in health education. Based at The Canberra Hospital, we are jointly funded by the ANU Medical School and ACT Health. Our activities span education, research and community service.

Our nationally recognised General Practitioner Vocational Training Group provides all of the GP registrar training in the ACT and South East NSW region and continuing medical education for specialist GPs. We also support overseas trained doctors in attaining fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

Our unit is committed to improving Australia’s capacity to undertake high quality primary health care research. Several of our major research projects have evolved from the kindergarten screening program that we have coordinated with ACT Community Health Maternal & Child Health nurses since 1998.
