I need to defer an exam
Deferring an exam is a relatively straightforward process as long as you can justify the request.
The ANU may make alternate arrangements for students who are unable to attend a formal examination at the prescribed time, owing to extenuating circumstances.
Extenuating circumstances can include but aren't limited to:
- An unexpected illness or exacerbation of illness.
- The illness/death of a family member.
- Trauma.
- Being a victim of crime.
Deferring assessment is handled centrally by the ANU, and the ANU Medical School has no power to grant deferrals directly. In order to defer an exam you will be required to complete the following steps:
Contact your year coordinator
Contact your year coordinator to advise them of your deferral request. A reason for deferral is required.
Apply online
Complete the online form available through ISIS
Note: Strong justification for deferring of an exam is required, it's unlikely to be granted for holiday or recreational purposes.
Notify the Medical Education Unit (MEU)
Contact the MEU to notify them of a deferral application
email: meu.medicalschool@anu.edu.au
When your deferral is approved
Once approval from ANU is received, please:
- Email the MEU (meu.medicalschool@anu.edu.au) to confirm a time and date to sit your deferred examination.
- Notify your year coordinator.
For further information please contact your year coordinator.
