Get to know....I Nyoman Sutarsa
I started at ANU…
in July 2015 as a PhD scholar at the Medical School. Between 2016 and 2019 I was a casual academic (PBL facilitator, Population Health tutor, and team teaching for the Bachelor of Health Science Program). From August 2019, I worked as a lecturer at the Rural Clinical School, and now I am part of the Population Health team.
My job is...
Senior Lecturer in Population Health. My role will be mainly with the Doctor of Medicine and Surgery program, where I will coordinate population health teaching for year 1, and co-convene the Phase 2 Population Health Project, with Rafat Hussain as Coordinator.
A recent professional achievement I’m proud of…
I was selected for the ANU Educational Fellowship Scheme (EFS) as a mentor in 2021.
A project I am currently working on is...
I’m part of a research project looking at COVID-19 vaccination coverage in Indonesia (funded by WHO Indonesia), and leading a research project looking at impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the essential health services in primary care settings in Indonesia (funded by the ANU Global Research Partnership Scheme).
I hope the findings from these studies will inform broader health policy formulations and health system strategies in Indonesia, and allow a continued collaboration with Indonesia.
The thing I look forward to most when I'm on campus is...
The nature of the campus and the people (both academic, professional and students) - much better than being stuck at home for sure.
In my spare time I like to…
Read books, walk around the lake, and have coffee with friends.
A film I recommend…
Dune, a sci-fi adventure, was a very well made movie. I also like watching any of the Marvel movies (again and again) for entertainment.
If I could live anywhere in the world for a year it would be…
My village in Bali, especially after the travel restriction for nearly 2.5 years. It is home and my family are there.
