Get to know...Dr Janis Pitt
Before joining ANU...
I worked in General Practice in Townsville. I have completed my intern and resident years at the Canberra Hospital, as well as SHO years at the Townsville Hospital prior to GP training. In Canada I used to work as a university lecturer & researcher for Alberta Health Services.
My role is...
Senior Lecturer & Academic Coordinator for Phase 1 Clinical Skills.
The top three things on my to do list are...
- To continue the excellent standard of clinical skills for phase 1 students.
- With the ongoing nature of Covid, slowly reintroducing hands on clinical skills.
- Maintaining standards for preparing the year 2 students for their year 3 education.
The best advice I've ever heard...
Make your mark in life (my Father, Ken Sauvé)
If I could live anywhere in the world for a year...
It would be France, to improve my French language skills.
The most adventurous thing I've ever done...
It's a tie between presenting my Master's Research at the World Congress in Paris, France, and snowboarding in Whistler, British Columbia!
I'm looking forward to...
Supporting students in reaching their potential, overcoming challenges and welcoming them into the exciting world of medicine.
My happy hour order is...
A glass of Shaw & Smith Sauvignon Blanc.
A person who has impressed me most...
My husband. We're both driven and passionate individuals with two professional careers. With the ebbs and flows of life, he makes it work. He has supported me throughout medical school, GP training, and this new endeavour with ANU. All whilst changing nappies, cooking dinners, and the sleep deprivation associated with a young family.
