Injuries to the neck following whiplash trauma (whiplash injury) are one of the most common causes of neck pain and disability in the developed world. We are currently conducting a study which uses magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in combination with physical and psychological measures, to identify structural lesions of the neck following whiplash injury. The ability to identify and differentiate the relationship between structural lesions and physical and psychosocial measures in whiplash patients will potentially enable more specific and timely management.
This PhD Project will involve:
- Enrolling participants for a study capturing clinical and MRI data.
- Assessment of whiplash and control participants
- Image segmentation and analysis
- Possible international collaborative engagement with Aarhus University in Denmark.
The following eligibility criteria apply to this project:
- The project is open to Australian (domestic) candidates
- The PhD must be undertaken on a full-time basis
- Applicants must already have been awarded a first class Honours degree or hold equivalent qualifications or relevant and substantial research experience in an appropriate sector
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate strong research and analytical skills
Candidates from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Knowledge and skills that will be ranked highly include:
- A background in anatomy, medical imaging, physiotherapy, biomechanics or biomedical engineering.
- Skills and an interest in technology and programming
