Get to know...Jo-Anne Croker
My role is.....
Northern Rural Clinical Education Coordinator and Project Officer South East NSW Regional Training HUB
Before working at ANU......
I was a very proud National Learning Manager for a large disability company, supporting a big team remotely with a focus on human rights, abilities and opportunities for vulnerable people to choose a life they want and how they want. I enjoy empowering others to feel valued and supported to be the best they can be.
What I like most about my role is.......
The purpose, the people and what we achieve as a small but very determined team. The focus on supporting rural medical careers is what led me to apply in this area as I believe in equality and opportunities for all no matter your background or where you live. I am a part of a purpose that makes a difference.
The best advice I've ever heard....
A counsellor once told me that if the plane is going down the instructions are to give yourself the oxygen mask first before putting it on the child(ren). This is very important advice that I remind myself of often - if I don't have oxygen then how can I help those around me.
I'm looking forward to...
Travelling to the United States later this year with my two children for a month. We will be visiting Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco, New York, Washington DC, Miami and Hawaii. It will be extremely exciting but also challenging as they are 21 and 13 and so very different.
When I'm not working, you'll find me...
Binging television series, watching any type of sport with my kids, riding my motorbike, or riding my pushbike.
The most adventurous thing I've ever done is...
Skydiving by myself in secret. Loved it until we started going around in circles and then I was very sick for a good couple of hours.
