The Omicron Variant: Australian and Indian Perspective

The new COVID-19 omicron variant is a highly transmissible but relatively less virulent strain causing tidal waves of infection across the globe despite increasing vaccination rates . Infectious disease experts from Australia and India will come together to answer questions posed by ANU medical students on various aspects of the disease - focussing on points of difference from previous variants. This will include presentation, indications for admission, management, and impact of vaccination.

Dr. Neeraj Nischal is an Additional Professor in Medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India. He has a special interest in infectious diseases. He has been at the forefront of COVID patient management and resource development for the country since the start of the pandemic.

Dr Sanjaya Senanayake

Dr Sanjaya Senanayake is an Infectious Diseases Physician in Canberra, Australia. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Australian National University and Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases at Canberra Health Services. Dr Senanayake has a strong interest in infections of public health importance. He has been a regular presence in the media during the pandemic.
