Padma Shree Dr. Raman Gangakhedkar is an epidemiologist, previous Head Scientist of Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and the previous Director of the Indian National Institute of Virology. Both institutions were at the forefront of crafting and implementing India's COVID strategy. He is famously described as having been the face of ICMR in India during the pandemic last year
