Lecture Arrangements
Lecturers will receive two email reminders, one a month
before the scheduled date and another final reminder
two weeks before If you are lost
or delayed please call Medical Education Unit (MEU) on T: 6125 9686 so we can advise students.
Any materials (PowerPoint slides or readings) need to be emailed to E: medlecture@anu.edu.au at the MEU two weeks prior your lecture.
Here are some useful guides for using PowerPoint and the ANU
Template.
We all prepare our lecture the night
before a lecture, but student access your materials through MedOnline, hence we need your material at least two weeks prior. All materials must be correctly attributed
including source of any scanned or downloaded images. ANU requires that
an official copyright notice go at the head of all prepared
materials (there
are separate versions for print or graphic material and electronic
audiovisual material) . In a text paper, each image
requires the notice. In PowerPoint it is sufficient to
have the notice at the beginning of the presentation. On
the day please bring your presentation to the lecture either
on a CD, Floppy Disk or portable hard drive. If this is
not possible please email your presentation to E: MEU and
arrange to be at the MEU office fifteen minutes before your lecture.
A staff member will walk over to the Research School of Chemistry with you and help set up your presentation.
If you are at all concerned about finding the venue, please
call in to the MEU fifteen minutes before your
lecture is scheduled to begin and a staff member will walk
over to the Research School of Chemistry with you.
Tips for effective audiovisual materials
Remember to not overload slides!

|
With data projector connected to a computer;
- Check the set-up ahead of time or have a technician on
call.
- Check that the image is projected squarely onto the screen.
- Keep slides simple, only a few points per slide.
- Allocate 2-5 minutes per slide.
- If you use animations, builds (gradual appearance of information)
and/or wipes (animated transitions) use them sparingly.
- Choose a subdued colour scheme with writing that strongly
contrasts with the background eg dark background light text .
- Give the students plenty of time to read the slides.
- Use a pointer or a laser pen (Turn the laser pen off when
not pointed at the screen).
Whiteboard and marker (blackboard and chalk);
- Either speak to the audience or write on the board – avoid doing both at the same time.
- Use colours that contrast strongly with the board.
- Keep your writing as horizontal and as clear as possible.
Overhead transparencies;
- Be sure that glass is clean and you have a spare pen.
- Place transparency on projector before turning on the light.
- Check that the image is projected squarely onto the screen.
- Use piece of paper to mask information which you reveal progressively.
- Keep slides simple, only a few points per slide.
- Allocate 2-5 minutes per slide.
You are welcome to use the Classroom
Performance System keypad system - “the clickers”.
Just contact the MEU and we can provide the software and some
pointers in preparing questions. There are enough keypads
for the whole group.
So what do I do?
- Know the details of your lecture – subject, date,
time – found on MedOnline and on your wallet sized
card.
- Prepare materials and forward to MEU two weeks ahead of
lecture.
- MEU will load on to MedOnline attached to your session
outline.
- On arrival please introduce yourself and your background.
Students are keen to meet a diverse group of teachers.
- In the theatre, run your PowerPoint from MedOnline or
from the CD or Floppy disk that you have with you.
- If you have NOT sent materials you will need to bring
the presentation with you and load onto the PC (or your
laptop) and run.
- After the lecture MEU can load further readings and alert
students to their presence.
