General Information For All Students

Facilities

The Canberra Hospital campus

On The Canberra Hospital campus the Clinical School is colocated with the ACT Health Library. Student facilities include a computer lab with 30 workstations, a common room, 120 seat lecture theatre and 12 tutorial rooms. Along with the Library and teaching facilities, the building houses the School of Clinical Medicine Executive and support staff, and the Academic Units of General Practice and Community Care, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, and Surgery.

Calvary campus

The Calvary Hospital campus facilities are also colocated with the hospital library and include a student common room, four tutorial rooms and Clinical School administration offices. Computer facilities are available in the library.

Dress code

Informal dress is appropriate for routine lectures and teaching sessions that do not involve patient contact. As a medical student you will be involved in daytoday interactions with patients and medical staff, including the discussion of sensitive issues and the performance of a range of clinical duties. While attending the ward, clinics or general practice, dress should be appropriate for the rotation.

In general, a medical student should appear well groomed and professional. For males, a shirt and tie is recommended. Shorts, if worn, should be of a reasonable length and worn with long socks. Females should refrain from wearing tops that are low cut or bare the midriff. Trainers and jeans are not acceptable items of clothing while on the ward. Sandals or opentoed shoes are inappropriate for ward areas, as sharp objects, such as dropped needles, may pierce the foot.

Theatre gowns can only be worn within designated areas.

Identification badges

All students must wear their hospital photo ID, which should be clearly visible at all times.
