Biography

Professor Geoffrey Farrell is Professor of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at ANU and Head, Liver Research Unit at Canberra Hospital. Originally a graduate of the University of Tasmania, his clinical experience includes establishing the Liver Research Group at Westmead Hospital.

Geoff has received the Distinguished Research Prize of Gastroenterological Society of Australia, Eric Susman Prize for Medical Research of RACP, delivered the inaugural Zimmerman lecture, AASLD 2002 and the Georges Brohée Medal lecture of the World Congress of Gastroenterology in 2013.

Among many leadership roles, he has been President ASMR, President Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) Head, Department of Medicine, University of Sydney and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

In 2016 Geoff was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.
