Biography

Professor Lueck is an academic neurologist and head of the Department of Neurology at the Canberra Hospital. He is President of the Neuro-Ophthalmology Society of Australia and Chair of the International Relations Committee of the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society. He has worked with CIC (Professor Maddess) on various projects since he moved to Canberra in 2003.

Background

Professor Lueck trained in medicine at Cambridge University and St Thomas’ Hospital, London, UK. He trained in neurology at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London, UK before moving to Edinburgh, UK, as a consultant neurologist where he was also honorary senior lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. In 2003 he moved to Canberra where he has been Head of the Department of Neurology for 12 years. He received a national award for excellence in university teaching from the Australian Learning and Teaching Council in 2010. He has a strong clinical interest in neuro-ophthalmology.

Research

Research interests

Vision and eye movements, specifically, optic neuritis, chiasmal compression, disorders of higher visual function, eye movement disorders.

Neurological disorders, particularly stroke, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.

Teaching

Medicine in the MChD program.
