Provisional Admission for School Leaver

Although entry to the Medical School is only available to graduates, school leavers may apply for provisional admission. Application forms are available from the Medical School web site. Such students should expect to achieve a University Admission Index (UAI), ENTER or TER score (or be in OP band 1) of 98 or higher, and must make themselves available for interview in the month immediately following release of UAI scores. Those interviewing satisfactorily will be offered provisional admission to the Medical School, provided they enrol in one of the single or combined Bachelor degree programs at the ANU. The chosen degree program must be completed within the minimum time required of an applicant undertaking full-time study. This will usually be 3 years for a Bachelors degree, 4 years for an Honours degree and 4 or 5 years for combined Bachelors degrees, depending on the degree combination. Provisional entry to Medical School will only be converted to offer of a place by achievement of a GAMSAT score and GPA as required for normal graduate entry (see 'Admission for Local Students'). There will be no necessity for a further interview.

New Zealand citizens may also apply for provisional admission but will not be interviewed until late September of the year in which their NZEA scores are released.  For most applicants this will mean commencing university in New Zealand and then transferring to the ANU to study in subsequent years if successful with the provisional admission interview.  Therefore, any degree chosen for study should also be offered at the ANU.

*We will consider lower scores from students who apply for admission to a degree program at ANU under the Educational Access Scheme (EAS). Students from very remote, remote or outer regional Australia are elilgible to apply for Provisional Entry to the ANU Medical School with a UAI of 93 or greater. Rurality is determined by the Commonwealth government's Rural, Remote and Metropolitan Area (RRMA) classification system, which divides Australia's states and territories into metropolitan, rural and remote zones. Seven categories are included in this classification: 1-2 metropolitan, 3-5 rural and 6-7 remote zones. Applicants may check their rurality using the Australian Standard Geographical Classification Code (ASGC) Remoteness Postcode Lookup Tool at the Commonwealth Scholarships Programme website.

Provisional Entry interviews will be held on 22 January 2009. The deadline for applications is 9 January 2009.
